NLC, TUC to proceed on planned industrial action

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have both agreed to embark on their proposed industrial action on Wednesday, May 17, as planned. Vanguard sources revealed that both labour groups made this
resolve after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday evening.  but this appears to have been ignored by the workers.
Instead, it was gatehered that they are planning to mobilise people ahead of the industrial action which is expected to
commence from 12 midnight. According to Vanguard, the unions had exhaustive
deliberations on last week’s fuel hike by the federal government and consequences on the Nigerian workers and the public in general. The source who spoke with Vanguard reportedly said: “Our decision not to suspend the strike was further fueled by today’s injunction by the Industrial Court, restraining us from proceeding on the strike expected to begin tomorrow.” The source stated further that they may boycott the
meeting expected to be held with the secretary to the government of the federation on Tuesday evening as the
factional NLC, led by the general secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Joe Ajaero, has reportedly ruled himself out of the strike. NAIJ.com will continue to monitor proceedings from Abuja as
both parties are still expected to reach a final conclusion before the end of Tuesday.
